2005 - A Great Year for Choughs in Cornwall

Ray and Ruby
Ray Hales and chough chick Ruby

This has been a fantastic year for choughs in Cornwall. The birds on the Lizard have produced five young, and the captive breeding program at Paradise Park also produced five birds. The young birds have spread themselves about, and for the moment seem settled around the Lands End Peninsula. Two of the birds there have been joined by two more from 2004, and a second pair have located themselves elsewhere.

We were delighted to have received a donation from HRH Prince Charles via the Duke of Cornwall's Benevolent Fund. His Royal Highness has shown an interest in Operation Chough from its beginning, and his letter of support is printed in the Operation Chough booklet. The money donated will go towards monitoring equipment for birds breeding in the seclusion aviaries, and may also go towards a new aviary on the coast.

More details of the wild birds and Operation Chough can be found by clicking on the links.
